We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates. Thanks to everyone who sent a letter.
Updated: October 2, 2011
Recent articles in the media have turned attention to the story of the deliberate targeting of healthcare personnel in Bahrain.
Please see the below articles and the letter written by DARA to King Hamad and the National Post.
We encourage all members to stand up for the rights of all physicians and join the campaign.

This letter is being sent to King Hamad of Bahrain.
Doctors Against Racism and Anti-Semitism are deeply troubled by reports reaching us on the sentencing of doctors and health workers to long prison terms. Their sworn duty, as with all members of the medical profession world-wide, is to heal the wounded, and alleviate human suffering, without prejudice. Their work at Salmaniya Hospital, in your capital city, Manama cannot, and should not be viewed as partisan or political. Your security forces’ brutal torture killing of laboratory worker Abdulrazal al-Hujiri evokes the strong condemnation of all civilized people.
We request an immediate review of your courts’ work on this issue, with a view to exonerate our colleagues.
If Bahrain wishes to be regarded as a civilized member of the human family, then the voice and practice of reason and compassion must prevail.

BOYCOTT OF ACADEMICS BY NORWEGIAN UNIVERSITY
Dear Members,
The noble organization Scholars for Peace in the Middle East (SPME) has been at the forefront in the fight against a boycott of Israeli academics by a university in Norway.
Doctors Against Racism and Anti-Semitism urges our members to support SPME in this endeavour. A petition has been formed, and signed by several Nobel Laureates, and your signatures are needed too.
Please follow the link below to learn more about this, and to sign the petition.
Thank you.

OMA CRUISE
DARA is pleased to announce that The Ontario Medical Association has taken the honourable, moral, and correct course of action pertaining to the upcoming CME cruise to Dubai and United Arab Emirates.
Last week, DARA contacted The OMA and expressed its concern that Israeli nationals would not be allowed to participate in the conference, in direct contravention to the OMA's core value of "Treating everyone with respect, dignity, and integrity". As a direct result of DARA's action, the OMA has decided to no longer sponsor the CME event.
The Executive of DARA wishes to thank the OMA for taking this action, and commend them for upholding principles of non-discrimination and intolerance to racism.
The OMA has already notified their partner, Seas Courses Cruises, and will be notifying those physicians who have confirmed attendance of the situation. A new CME Travel date will be arranged.
The DARA Executive wishes to thank its members for their input on this matter.
Attached is the letter to the OMA.
Sincerely,
The Executive
